Every July, Tsleil-Waututh Nation holds an annual canoe race out of Whey-ah-wichen/Cates Park called Whey-ah-Wichen Canoe Festival. Teams from the North Shore compete against other First Nations from all over Coast Salish territory: the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Washington state using traditional dug out racing canoes. All teams camp and race at the park.

As well as getting the opportunity to spectate at the festival you’ll also find arts and crafts vendors, traditional foods, with barbecued salmon and bannock for sale, and fun landraces and activities for kids.
